POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES:

About the Queensborough Community College Music Department:

The Music Department offers two programs of study: the A.S. degree in Visual and Performing Arts (Music Concentration), and the A.A.S. degree in Music Electronic Technology. The department's facilities include two recording studios, a recording lab, three computer labs, classrooms equipped with electronic keyboards, a large rehearsal room, and several performance spaces (including access to an 875-seat theater). In addition to offering courses that support the two degree programs mentioned above, the department offers introductory music history courses, many of which feature writing-intensive instruction, and music industry courses. The department provides opportunities in ensemble performance, including concert band, chorus, gospel choir, jazz, percussion and small vocal ensemble. Duties:

Teach music recording technology courses, audio recording, music production, multimedia, and digital sound design. Additional teaching duties will include courses in musicianship; music theory; music history, literature and appreciation; and/or ensemble performance. Participate actively in department and college affairs, including student mentoring and advisement, curriculum and course development, grant writing, committee work, professional development, and other activities. Continued scholarly activities (research, publications, presentations, and creative works) are required for tenure and promotion. Evening and/or weekend schedule may be required.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

A Baccalaureate Degree in Music, Music Recording Technology or related field required for Lecturer title; Master's Degree in Music, Music Recording Technology or related field required for Instructor title; Ph.D. or equivalent in Music required for Assistant Professor title (preferred). Teaching experience is required; experience teaching a range of courses at the college level in audio recording, music production, multimedia, digital sound design, musicianship, music theory and music history/literature/appreciation is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations is preferred. Performance-level proficiency in voice, keyboard, brass or orchestral instruments, as well as ensemble experience, is preferred.
