POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES:

About the Queensborough Community College Foreign Languages Department:


We are an innovative Faculty that values pedagogical inquiry and dedication to teaching. Our department is composed of six language programs. There are over 130 language groups among our students, reflective of the diverse population of Eastern Queens. We are committed to teaching our diverse student body through innovative language pedagogy, such as Service Learning, WI (Writing Intensive), online courses and learning communities. Duties:

Teach Italian (and Spanish, if needed) as a foreign language incorporating new technologies and pedagogical approaches. Develop Italian courses incorporating multimedia and computer-assisted teaching methodologies. Provide academic advisement and assistance to students during the semester and as part of the registration process; assist in the administering of foreign language placement exams; actively participate on departmental and College committees and/or other College service, serve as faculty advisor to the foreign language club. Some evening and week-end hours may be required.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Required:

MA in Italian or Applied Linguistics, with experience in teaching Italian at college level; ability to teach Spanish language courses.


Preferred:

Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching; knowledge of the new trends in language pedagogy and educational technology; strong interest in, and commitment to distance learning; excellent communication skills in English, native or near-native proficiency in Italian and Spanish; ability to function effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
