Have a soft spot for a special needs dog? Meet Sonja, an extraordinary girl and a volunteer favorite. She's a 9 year old spayed pit/shepard mix who suffers from a slight neurological condition, due to having undergone major surgery to reattach her tongue many years ago. She came through the operation as good as new and requires no medication for her condition. The only real remnant of her traumatic history is the odd way she has of "croaking", rather than barking, to get the attention of anyone within earshot. Over the years here, her profound love of people has only grown. Truly, her only desire is to be loved. Sonja craves affection and will ask for it in her very unique way of vocalizing, as well as by rubbing up against her kennel gate whenever a passerby offers an outstretched hand. She is a true communicator, happiest and most content while sprawled out on a sofa, scratched behind the ears or given a belly rub. Sweet Sonja would be best placed with any combination of loving adults with or without children of any age looking for a companion couch potato. Single pet status is a must.
