I have just started receiving working section 8, I

have been paying rent for many years and finally I have been approved.for federal section 8 for working people.

I am a single mother of one 18

year old son. I have been working in New Hyde Park NY for over 5 yrs. I

have been living in the same apartment in Far Rockaway called Ocean

Village for 17 years. But the area has gotten so bad I feel fear of

leaving my apartment.



DHCR's Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program provides rental

assistance and home ownership option to extremely low, very low and low

income households in New York State .



One goal of the HCV Program is to enable eligible households to rent or

purchase decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private housing

market. After a voucher is issued it remains with the family or

individual as long as they remain eligible, even if they change

residence. My voucher is for 1472.00 with utilities.
