I am looking for a three bedroom apartment in Queens. I have been looking for 6 months now to no avail. I have faced horrific discrimination because I have section 8, because I do not work, because I receive disability for income, because I have two young children, because I have a teenage daughter, because I've been to landlord tenant court, because my credit is ruined and possibly even because I am a single mother.

What landlords are failing to see is that my section 8 voucher pays $1775 GUARANTEED a month. I am disabled and receive a check and one third of the rent amount is payed directly to the owner from the state. My children are wonderful and gifted children that attend school and my 15 year old is very serious about the culinary arts program that she attends. She does not "hang out" and cause problems. An apartment that my family lived in for 3 years had lead paint and my children had lead poisoning. We had to leave and live in a shelter while they cleaned out the lead paint. During that interim the landlord stole some of our property and threw out what she didn't want then changed the locks on the doors. She also used my information to turn the gas on in my name for the entire building never payed the bill and ruined my credit. I had to take her to court she whined and cried and told nothing but lies about me owing her money and somehow got away with everything she did to us. I couldn't afford to sue her. Lastly MY kids think I am the best mother EVER! I have raised two FINE men one is a USMC corporal and one is a graphic designer.

STOP DISCRIMINATING!!!!! There are a lot of crappy people on section 8 I would agree but there are more people out there like me struggling every day to get an apartment and getting doors slammed on their faces until they loose their section 8, and the little bit of money that they do have, to live in the horrible shelter system. The kids suffer so much! JUST STOP THIS INSANITY!!!!
