GENERAL DUTIES
Coordinates compliance activities related to College or Unit research programs.
- Ensures that campus research programs comply with federal regulations, state laws, and CUNY policies and procedures
- Provides administrative support to committees and review boards overseeing research compliance
- Conducts outreach and education efforts to foster a culture of regulatory compliance
- Organizes and manages technology applications used to facilitate compliance and reporting
- Collects data and reports on compliance activities and outcomes
- Performs related duties as assigned.
CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Research Compliance Specialist will work three days a week at Baruch College (Manhattan, New York) and two days a week at New York City College of Technology (Brooklyn, New York). The schedule can be somewhat flexible.
The Research Compliance Specialist works closely with the Provost's Office and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and at Baruch College, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee [IACUC] Chair, and the Research Integrity Officer [RIO]) to assure the protection of the rights and welfare of all research subjects at Baruch College and the New York City College of Technology.
The Research Compliance Specialist oversees the Research Protections Program by implementing institutional policy, as well as Federal, State and local laws, pertaining to the protection of human and animal research subjects; ensuring compliance; educating investigators, IRB and IACUC members, administrators and others engaged in research with human and animal subjects; assisting in the development of research protocols; assisting with protocol submissions; and conducting budget, quality assurance, and staff supervision activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) certification is required.
-Certification or progress towards certification as an IRB professional (CIP) is highly desirable.

Knowledge:
-Knowledge of principles of ethical conduct of research with human and animal subjects.
-Knowledge of applicable federal regulations (OHRP, NIH, FDA, USDA, ORI, and other government agencies) related to human and animal research subjects protection.
Skills:
-Excellent written and oral communications skills.
-Excellent analytical, time management and multi-tasking skills.
Abilities:
-Edit and write clear, precise, and grammatically correct letters, memos and reports.
-Follow through on assignments with minimal direction, independently prioritize work, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
-Work effectively and diplomatically with a broad range of researchers and other diverse individuals in a professional manner.
COMPENSATION
Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
